Reporting Tool Does Not Allow Use of Other Data Sources (299571)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q299571

SYMPTOMS

When you start the Reporting Tool in Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM), the option to select other data sources may display only the default data source.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if a custom or newly added data source name (DSN) is configured to use Microsoft SQL Server 2000 authentication rather than Microsoft Windows NT authentication.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, edit the properties for the System DSN that you want to use so that the System DSN requires Windows NT authentication:
  1. Click Start on the taskbar, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Administrative Tools, click Data Sources, and then click System DSN.
  3. Click the DSN to select it, and then click Configure.
  4. Click Next, and click With NT Authentication using the network login ID.
  5. Click Finish.

MORE INFORMATION

You must configure the SQL Server installation where you install the MOM OnePoint database to use Windows NT authentication. For more information refer to the Installation Guide that is included on the MOM CD-ROM, or to the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
