Visio2000: Error Message: "Operation Failed Because Connection Points Are Disabled" Adding Connection Points to Shape (299315)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the connection point tool to add a new connection point to a shape, you receive one of the following error messages:
Operation failed because connection points are disabled.

-or-

Cannot add connection points. Connection points are disabled.

CAUSE

This error message occurs when the Connection Points feature is turned off.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this error message, click Connection Points on the View menu.

When Connection Points are viewable, you can add additional connection points to a shape with a mouse click in conjunction with the following:

  • To add an Inward connection point, hold down CTRL and click on, inside, or outside the selected shape's boundaries.
  • To add an Outward connection point, hold down CTRL+ALT and click on, inside, or outside the selected shape's boundaries.
  • To add an Inward & Outward connection point, add an Inward or Outward connection point; right-click the connection point, and then click Inward & Outward.
