Unable to Convert MPEG-2 File to Windows Media Format by Using Windows Media Encoder (299290)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Windows Media Encoder to convert a video file into Windows Media file format (.wmv), you may receive the following error message:
The input media format is invalid (0xc00D0BB8)

CAUSE

This problem may occur in the following situation:
  • You attempt to convert a Moving Picture Experts Group 2 (MPEG-2) (.mpg) file to Windows Media format (.wmv).

    -and-
  • Your computer uses a software-based MPEG-2 decoder.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install a compatible hardware-based DVD decoder in the computer that supports DirectShow (DShow).
