The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition
This article was previously published under Q299265 SYMPTOMS
When you browse the Internet, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
GetLastError! access denied
You may receive the error message repeatedly every few minutes when you are browsing the Web. This behavior does not affect your ability to navigate to Web sites; however, when the message is displayed on the screen, you are unable to move your pointer away from the message dialog box.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when PTCVoice.exe is loaded on Startup.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, run the System Configuration Utility (msconfig.exe) to turn off PTCVoice.exe. To do this, follow these steps:
- On the Start menu, click Run.
- In the Open box, type msconfig, and then click OK.
- Click the Startup tab.
The Startup tab lists items that are loaded at startup from the Startup group, Win.ini load= and run=, and the registry. Find the line that loads PTCVoice.exe and clear it (remove the check mark).
- Click Yes to the Do you want to restart your computer now? message.
- To verify that the problem is resolved, start your browser, and attempt to reproduce the issue.
