Visio2002: Visio Stops Responding When You Attempt to Cancel the Creation of an Organization Chart (299145)

When you attempt to cancel the creation of an organization chart in Microsoft Visio, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Visio has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Restart Microsoft Visio.

When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature similar to the following:

CAUSE
This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions are true:
- You use the Organization Chart Wizard to create your organization chart.
-and- - Your organization chart is based on data from your Microsoft Exchange Server directory.
-and- - You are creating a very large organization chart.
-and- - You click Cancel to stop the process after the wizard has started processing a large number of pages of the chart.
For example, after you click Finish in the Organization Chart Wizard dialog box, the wizard starts to read data from the Exchange Server directory and process the pages of your chart. When you click Cancel to stop the operation after the wizard has processed over 400 pages, Visio may stop responding (hang), and then you receive the error message described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, cancel the process before the wizard has processed a large number of pages of your chart. For example, click Cancel when the progress bars indicate that the wizard is reading data from the Exchange Server directory or when the wizard has started processing only the first few pages of your chart.
