This article was previously published under Q299083

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to resize any of the following shapes from the Office Furniture stencil in Microsoft Visio
  • Corner surface shape
  • Swivel tilt chair shape
  • 2 seat sofa shape
  • Sofa shape
the shape may not be displayed correctly after it is resized. The shape may be missing lines or control handles, and it may appear as a simple line, a square box, or a series of square boxes.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions are true:
  • You attempt to resize any of the shapes listed at the beginning of this article.

    -and-
  • When you resize the shape, you shrink the shape to its smallest possible size, and then without releasing the mouse button, you enlarge the shape to restore it to its original size.

    -and-
  • The shape's yellow control handles are not restored to their original positions, but remain in the borders of the shape after the resize operation.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, use any of the following methods.

Method 1

Delete the distorted shape from your drawing, and then replace it with a new shape from the Office Furniture stencil. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Visio, and then open your drawing.
  2. On the File menu, point to Stencils, point to Building Plan, and then click Office Furniture.
  3. On your drawing page, select the distorted shape, and then press DELETE.
  4. Drag a new shape from the Office Furniture stencil to your drawing page.

Method 2

Use the control handles to modify the shape, and then restore the shape to its original form. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Visio, and then open your drawing.
  2. Click a control handle in the distorted shape, and then drag the control handle back to its original position.
  3. Repeat step 2 for each control handle in the shape until the shape is restored to its original form.NOTE: Each control handle has a function unique to the shape on which it appears. To display a screen tip that explains what a control handle does, position the pointer over the control handle.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
