Error 0x8898001C When You Add a Child Category in BizDesk (299002)

SYMPTOMS

When you assign a category as a child of another category in Commerce Server 2000 BizDesk, you receive the following error message if the parent category contains an apostrophe in its name:
Errors occurred while loading part of the Business Desk.

CAUSE

The apostrophe in the name of the parent category causes the SQL query to be truncated. As a result, the parent category cannot be found.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Commerce Server 2000 service pack that contains this hotfix.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do not use an apostrophe in the names of the parent categories.
