OFFXP: "Discard My Customized Settings ..." Is Unavailable in the Detect and Repair Dialog Box (298920)

SYMPTOMS

When you click Detect and Repair on the Help menu in any of the Office programs, the Discard my customized settings and restore default settings option is unavailable (appears dimmed).

CAUSE

The Discard my customized settings and restore default settings option is unavailable if the Save My Settings Wizard feature is not installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the Save My Settings Wizard. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel.
  2. In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, double-click the item for your Office XP product.
  3. In the Maintenance Mode Options dialog box, select Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
  4. Expand the Office Tools feature.
  5. Click the icon next to Save My Settings Wizard, and then select Run from My Computer.
  6. Click Update.
  7. Click OK when the update is finished.
