PRB: Embedded WMP 6.4 Does Not Return Error When Maximum Number of Connections Is Reached (298863)

SYMPTOMS

Windows Media Player (WMP) 6.4 or 7.1 that is embedded in a Web page (Msdxm.ocx) does not generate an error message when the connection limit on Windows Media Server has been reached.

This problem only occurs when you use .asx files. When you use the direct mms: path to an .asf file, it works fine and generates the error message as expected.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use Windows Media Player 7.
