SYMPTOMS

When you start your computer, you may receive the following error message:
Fsg has caused an error in Fsg.exe. Fsg will now close.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you have installed either a Roger Wilco or a Trickler (Fsg.exe) program on your computer.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To work around this behavior, remove the Trickler program (Fsg.exe) from the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

The Trickler program, Fsg.exe, that is located in the C:\Windows\System folder must also be renamed.

For information about how to rename a file, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type: renaming, and then double-click the Renaming Files topic.

MORE INFORMATION

Typically, the Trickler program is installed automatically by the Gator OfferCompanion program; or, the Trickler program may be installed by Roger Wilco (voice-to-game integration software). The purpose of Trickler is to gather information about the Web sites that you visit. Trickler provides aggregate statistics to third-party vendors about users, traffic patterns, and related Web site information.

Trickler is also called Fsg-ag.exe (which is installed with AudioGalaxy) or other names that contain "fsg" or "trickler".
