After you upgrade from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, you may notice that your desktop icons have been rearranged.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because Microsoft Windows XP Setup does not preserve your desktop icon settings when you upgrade from Windows NT 4.0.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, manually rearrange your desktop icons after upgrading.
