This article was previously published under Q297414 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to browse your mailbox by using Outlook Mobile Access you may receive the following error message:
500 Server Error
There are no event ID messages logged in the Application Event log or a system log generated. When you examine the Internet Information Services (IIS) W3SVC log files, you may note the 500 Server Error, however, no other information is provided. CAUSE
This behavior can occur because the user topology that you have selected for Mobile Information Server requires that the Exchange 2000 Server /domainprep switch be run in the domain that contains the wireless users accounts. The /domainprep switch adds the Recipient Update Service (RUS) to that domain. When the RUS is not installed in that domain, the users do not get the proper fields populated in Active Directory for mailbox access.RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, run the Exchange 2000 Server /domainprep switch in the domain that contains the wireless accounts as per the following table: |
Same domain account as your user account | No | Wireless -w accounts in the same domain | No | Wireless domain in the same forest | Yes | Wireless domain in the same forest with Access User | No | Separate Wireless forest | /forestprep and /domainprep switch | Separate Wireless forest with Access User | No |
Verify that the RUS is setup in the domain and that it functions. In addition, allow time for the RUS to update the users, or force an update or rebuild.
