When you try to gain access to your e-mail through a dial-up, DSL, or cable modem connection to an MSN POP3 account, you may receive the following message:
This way to the Best of the Internet
You cannot cancel the message. Outlook cannot send or receive any messages because Outlook cannot establish a connection to the e-mail servers until your username and password can be authenticated. However, the username and password you type may not be accepted.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, configure Outlook Express so that, when Outlook checks for new mail, the connection to MSN is established through the MSN connection window:
- On the Tools menu, click Accounts, and then click the Mail tab.
- Click your MSN account, and then click Properties.
- Click the Server tab, and then click to select the My server requires authentication check box in the Outgoing Mail Server area.
- Click Settings, and then click Log on Using.
- Type an account name and password, and then click to select the Remember password and Log on using Secure Password Authentication check boxes.
- Click OK, and then click the Connection tab.
- Click to select the Always connect to this account using check box, and then click the MSN account from the drop-down list.
- Click OK, and then click Close.
- Quit Outlook Express, and then restart the computer.
