SYMPTOMS

Server applications may unexpectedly stop accepting connections.

CAUSE

This behavior is due to a bug in the Msafd.dll file. The bug can prevent the replenishment of the listen backlog when a failure occurs during the registering of memory on a freshly accepted connection. When enough of these failures occur, the Msafd System Area Network (SAN) backlog eventually goes to 0, and Msafd starts rejecting all incoming SAN connections.

RESOLUTION

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 2.
