FP97: Error Message When You Attempt to Open a FrontPage Web (296699)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a Microsoft FrontPage Web, you may receive an error message similar to the following
The Web server does not support the POST method. (HTTP Error 405)
and you cannot run the List Webs command from the Web server.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if any of the following conditions are true:
  • The Web is located on a server on which the FrontPage Server Extensions from Microsoft are not installed.

    -or-
  • The Web is located on a server on which the FrontPage Server Extensions installation is corrupted.

    -or-
  • The Web is located on a server on which the FrontPage Server Extensions were copied to the server instead of being installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install or reinstall the FrontPage Server Extensions.
