This article describes how to grant an account in a separate forest or domain access to an Exchange 2000 mailbox. To complete this procedure, there must be a working trust in place between domains.

To configure UserA in DomainA to access UserB's mailbox in DomainB:
  1. Start the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in, and then click Advanced Features on the View menu.
  2. Open the properties of UserB's account.
  3. Click the Exchange Advanced tab, and then click Mailbox Rights.
  4. In the Permissions dialog box, click Add.
  5. Click DomainA (the remote domain) in the Look In box.
  6. Click the UserA account, and then click Add.
  7. Click OK.
  8. With UserA logged on to a workstation, configure a Microsoft Outlook profile, type the name of the Exchange 2000 computer in the Server name box, and then type UserB in the Mailbox name box.
  9. Start Outlook using the new profile.
