XL2001: Paste in Noncontiguous Selection Is Pasted in Active Cell Only (296467)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Excel 2001 for Mac

This article was previously published under Q296467

SYMPTOMS

If you copy a cell and then select a range of cells in which to paste, Excel only pastes data into the active cell.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you hold down the COMMAND key to select noncontiguous cells and there are blank spaces between the selected cells or ranges.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, select each cell or contiguous range separately and then use the Paste command separately for each. Because the copied data remains in the Clipboard after a paste operation, you can continue pasting each time you select a cell or contiguous range until you are finished.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

This behavior differs from that in Microsoft Excel 98 Macintosh Edition, in which you can paste into cells that are selected as a noncontiguous area.
