OL2002: How to Reset the Prompt That Verifies if Outlook Is the Default E-mail Client (296209)

SUMMARY

After you install Outlook 2002, it is automatically set as the default e-mail client. If you have selected another e-mail program as the default e-mail client, the following prompt appears when you start Outlook 2002:

Outlook is not currently your default program for E-mail, Calendar and Contacts. Would you like to make it the default program?

If you click to clear the Always perform this check when starting Microsoft Outlook check box in the dialog box, you do not receive the prompt again.

To re-enable this prompt so that it appears when you start Outlook 2002, change the value in the registry. To do this:
  1. Exit Outlook.
  2. Click Start, click Run.
  3. Type regedit, and then click OK.
  4. Locate the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Outlook\Options\General\Check Default Client

  5. Change the value under Check Default Client to 1, and then exit the registry.
