NFS Server Queries Mapsvc Before It Has Completed Initialization (296149)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server SP1
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP1
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional SP1

This article was previously published under Q296149

SYMPTOMS

The NFS server may query the Username Mapping service (Mapsvc) before Mapsvc has completed initialization. If this occurs, no mapping information is returned to the NFS server. Therefore, the NFS servers map cache is empty and all users are mapped to anonymous.

CAUSE

When the Services for UNIX (SFU) NFS server starts, it contacts Mapsvc and caches a copy of the mapping information. If the NFS server contacts Mapsvc before it has completed its initialization, no mapping information is returned to the NFS server. Making the NFS Server service dependent on Mapsvc does not correct the problem.
Mapsvc reports a state of running before it had completed initialization.
