E-mail Notifications May Generate Memory and Handle Leaks (295890)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q295890

SYMPTOMS

When an e-mail notification is sent, Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2000 may leak memory and 5 or more handles.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

MOM 2000 has the ability to send e-mail notifications when an event occurs, but these notifications can cause 5 or more handles and some memory to leak. MOM processes this problem internally by using the "OnePoint service handle count > 10,000 (handle leak) - Bounce Service" Performance processing rule. This rule is located in the "Agents, Consolidators, or Data Access Servers" Processing Rule group. This rule stops and then restarts the OnePoint service on the server.

Additionally, an alert to notify you that this activity has occurred is generated by the "OnePoint service handle count > 10,000 (handle leak) - Alert" Performance Processing rule that is contained in the "Agents, Consolidators, or Data Access Servers" Processing Rule group.
