SYMPTOMS

When you are using Netscape Navigator 6 and you attempt to access a Web site by typing the URL in the Open box of the Run dialog box, you may receive the following error message:
Windows cannot find 'http://www.Web site name.com'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.
When you click OK, Netscape 6 may open to the specified home page.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this behavior is not caused by a problem in Windows XP. For more information about resolving this issue, contact the program's manufacturer.

MORE INFORMATION

To work around this problem, configure Microsoft Internet Explorer to be the default browser. To do this, just start Internet Explorer and you are prompted to make Internet Explorer the default browser. By making Internet Explorer your default browser, all links to Web pages are opened in Internet Explorer instead of in Netscape.

If you do not receive a prompt from Internet Explorer to change the default browser:
  1. In Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Internet Options, or double-click Internet Options.
  2. On the Programs tab, click to select the Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser check box, and then click OK.
