OL2000: "The .Dll File for the Information Service Could Not Be Loaded" Error Message at Startup in IMO Mode (295715)

SYMPTOMS

When you start Outlook 2000 in Internet Mail Only (IMO) mode, you may receive the following error message:
The .dll file for the information service could not be loaded.
The error message does not specify which .dll file is at fault.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, start Windows Explorer, rename the Mapi32.dll file in the Windows\System or WINNT\System32 folder, and then reinstall Outlook 2000.

You can also run the Detect and Repair process for Microsoft Office 2000:
  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, double-click the Office 2000 entry.
  4. Click Repair Office.
  5. Click Repair errors in my Office installation, click to select the Restore my shortcuts check box if you are having difficulty with your Outlook 2000 shortcut, and then click Finish.
