FIX: Server Fails with Query to Cube with Multiple Partitions and Distinct Count Measure (295634)

SYMPTOMS
When you query a cube that has multiple partitions, aggregations stored by way of ROLAP or HOLAP, and a Distinct Count Measure, you may receive the following error in the Windows Event Viewer for the Analysis Services service:
Unexpected fatal error occurred. Attempting to restart server.
The client then receives an error such as the following:
Connection to the server is lost.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for the Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (the Analysis Services Components - Sql2kasp1.exe). For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the

WORKAROUND
This problem will not occur if you have only one partition or if your server has more then one processor.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services version 8.0. This problem was first corrected in the Analysis Services Components of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
