In Outlook 2001 for Mac, if you send a meeting request to a distribution list and you check the status of the attendees, you may notice that the distribution list is not expandable.
CAUSE
This behavior is by design

To determine the status of the attendees, view the list of responses in the open meeting. The status of each person on the list is displayed as they accept or decline the invitation.
