STOP 0x000000CE Error Message Occurs in Vga.sys (293410)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to change Display settings, if you double-click Display in Control Panel, or if you right-click the desktop and click Properties, a "STOP 0xCE" error message may occur in Vga.sys.

CAUSE

The issue can occur if PCAnywhere 9.2 is incompatible with the video drivers that are installed on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. Start Windows 2000 in Safe mode.
  2. Start PCAnywhere, and then click Application Options on the Tools menu.
  3. Click the Host Operations tab.
  4. Change the Host Video mode setting to Compatibility.
  5. Click OK, and then quit PCAnywhere.
  6. Restart Windows 2000 in Normal mode.
