This article was previously published under Q293325 SUMMARY
When you view tracked changes in a Microsoft Word 2002 document, there are four preview settings for Print Layout view and Web Layout view:
- Original
- Original Showing Markup
- Final Showing Markup
- Final
This article explains the differences between these preview settings.
MORE INFORMATION
When you share your documents with others, you can use the change-tracking feature in Word (on the Tools menu, click Track Changes) to track all additions, deletions, and changes in formatting made to the document. Word displays any revised text in a different color from the original text and uses revision marks, such as underlines, to distinguish the revised text from the original text. Each of the preview settings gives you a different perspective on the document and the changes.
To change to a different preview setting, follow these steps:
- Open the document.
- If the Reviewing toolbar is not visible, point to Toolbars on the View menu, and then click Reviewing.
- In the Display for Review list on the Reviewing toolbar, select the preview setting that you want.
- On the View menu, click Web Layout or Print Layout.
Preview SettingsOriginal
All of the changes and comments are hidden from the view, and the original version is displayed. The document contains tracked changes, but they are not visible.
Original Showing Markup
The original version of the document is displayed, with all the new text, changes in formatting, and comments appearing inside balloons in the margin. Strikethrough formatting is used to display deleted text.
Final Showing Markup
The final (or current) version of the document is displayed, with all the new text and formatting in place and marked with underline formatting. Comments, notes on changed formatting, and deleted text are displayed in balloons in the margin.
Final
The changes are incorporated in the onscreen view of the document, as if the changes have actually been made to the document or as if all tracked changes have been accepted. All notes on formatting changes and comments are hidden. None of the changes are marked in any way. NOTE: Until you accept or reject changes, all deletions, formatting changes, and comments are stored in the document regardless of the preview settings.
