ACC2000: The SUM Function in a Form Returns an Incorrect Value (293134)

SYMPTOMS

When you run a Microsoft Access project (.adp) form against large tables in Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 or Microsoft SQL Server 2000, the SUM function does not return the same value each time that the form is opened. Instead, a random, incorrect result is returned.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP-3).

MORE INFORMATION

On both Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Windows 95, the SUM function may temporarily display the incorrect result while the records are being read. The Sum field updates to the correct number after all the records are read. On Microsoft Windows 2000, the Sum field remains blank until the final result appears.
