OL2002: Contact Attachment Shows Up as a Mail Item Attachment (293012)

SYMPTOMS

When you send a message with a contact attachment from an Exchange Server account to a Hotmail account, the attachment appears as a mail item and not as a contact item when the message is opened in Hotmail.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Exchange Server computer is not set to use Transport-Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF) proprietary formatting. The contact is attached as a non-TNEF message.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
