OL2002: A Second Folder Is Created and Set As the Default Calendar Folder After You Install Outlook 2002 (292980)

SYMPTOMS

After you install Outlook 2002, a second calendar folder named Calendar1 may appear in your Folder List. This second Calendar folder registers itself as the default calendar, and most new appointments that you create are added to it instead of your normal calendar. Calendar1 is treated as a primary Outlook folder and cannot be deleted.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because when you open Outlook 2002, it attempts to initialize the store. If it cannot retrieve all of the calendar data from the store, a new calendar folder is created.

WORKAROUND

Use the following steps to work around this behavior:
  1. Exit Outlook 2002.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. Type outlook /resetfolders.
  4. Click OK, and Outlook opens.
  5. You can now safely delete Calendar1. To do this, right-click Calendar1 in the Folder List, and then click Delete.
To restore normal Outlook functionality, you need to reset the free/busy information. To do this:
  1. Exit Outlook 2002.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. Type outlook /cleanfreebusy.
  4. Click OK, and Outlook opens.
