Packet Fragmentation May Occur in Audio-Only Content (292765)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 7
  • Microsoft Windows Media Encoder 7.1

This article was previously published under Q292765

SYMPTOMS

When you use Windows Media Encoder 7.0, audio-only content may experience packet fragmentation.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Windows Media Encoder does not support the packet size setting for audio-only scenarios.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Although the packet size setting is an Encoder setting, the SDK controls packet size. For audio, the SDK verifies that the packet size is no smaller than the native packet size of the audio format that you are using.
