Disconnected Users Are Not Displayed in Account Joiner If the Management Agent Name Contains Parentheses (291571)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Metadirectory Services 2.2
This article was previously published under Q291571 SYMPTOMS
When you open the Account Joiner utility, the tabs are typically displayed with the names of the Management Agents (MAs) that are currently running on the computer, and all disconnected users appear under the selected MA. If any of the MA names contain parentheses, no disconnected users are displayed.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if you use parentheses in the MA name. In the Account Joiner utility, brackets and parentheses are considered to be an escape character.
RESOLUTION
Microsoft does not recommend the renaming of MAs. As an alternative, you can re-create the MA and use a name that does not use parentheses:
- Record the templates to the working directory of the MA.For additional information about recording templates, click the article number below

- Click the MMS Server icon.
- In the Action panel, click Create New Management Agent.
- When you are prompted for the name and type of MA, choose the correct type, and then type the name of the MA. Make sure to use a name that does not contain parentheses.
- Configure the new MA by using the configuration parameters of the old MA.
- Copy all of the content from the working directory of the first MA into the working directory of the new MA.
- Click the new MA, and then click Properties in the Action panel.
- On the Recording Templates tab, click to select the Update this MA from the working directory's templates located at path to the MA working directory check box.
- Click OK.
- Click Update MA on the Action panel.
- Prior to running the new MA, right-click the original MA, click Delete, and then click Delete child entries only to remove the existing connector space objects under the MA.
- Additional modifications may necessitate the deletion of the entire MA. Microsoft recommends that you wait to permanently delete the MA until you are sure the new MA runs successfully.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
