How to Install Handwriting Recognition

  1. Close Outlook and any other open Microsoft Office programs.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click Add\Remove Programs.
  4. Double-click Microsoft Office XP, click Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
  5. Under Features to Install, click the plus symbol (+) that is next to Office Shared Features.
  6. Click the plus symbol (+) that is next to Alternative User Input, click the drive icon that is left of Handwriting, click Run from My Computer, and then click Update.

How to Set Microsoft Word As Your E-mail Editor

In order to use the Handwriting feature, Outlook 2002 must use Word to edit messages.
  1. Start Outlook.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. On the Mail Format tab, click to select Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages, click Apply, and then click OK.

How to Reposition the Language Bar

Open a new message in Outlook 2002. Word starts as your e-mail editor and the Language Bar appears in the upper right corner of the screen.
  1. Position the mouse cursor on the left side of the bar until the "cross hairs" (without quotation marks)appear. The cross hairs are four directional arrows that let you know you can now move the bar to another position.
  2. Hold the left-mouse button down, and then drag the bar to the desired position.
