SYMPTOMS

When you install Virtual Private Networking (VPN), you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Virtual Private Networking Adapter must have Ndiswan installed

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the Ndiswan.inf file is missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, extract the Ndiswan.inf file from the Windows Millennium Edition (Me) cabinet files:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then press ENTER.
  2. Click Extract File.
  3. Specify the file you want to restore (Ndiswan.inf), and then click Start.
  4. Type drive:\win9x, where drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, as the path from which to restore the file.
  5. Type c:\windows\inf as the path to which to restore the file.
  6. Click OK.
