FIX: Microsoft XML 3.0 Service Pack 1 Registry Changes (290909)

SYMPTOMS

With Microsoft XML (MSXML) 3.0 (Msxml3.dll, version 8.0.7820), the following are the values for the specific registry keys:

Registry key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft.XMLParser.1.0" shows the default name as "XML Parser0".

Registry key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Msxml2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument.3.0" shows the default name as "Free Threaded XML DOM Document30".

RESOLUTION

The above registry information has been changed in MSXML 3.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to coincide with the MSXML 3.0 SP1 object default name and ProgId naming conventions.

Registry key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft.XMLParser.1.0" shows the default name as "XML Parser".

Registry key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Msxml2.FreeThreadedDOMDocument.3.0" shows the default name as "Free Threaded XML DOM Document 3.0".

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

These changes were made to make MSXML object naming more consistent. For example, the following values are the same in both MSXML 3.0 and MSXML 3.0 SP1:

Registry key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Msxml2.DOMDocument" shows the default name as "XML DOM Document".

Registry key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Msxml2.DOMDocument.3.0" shows the default name as "XML DOM Document 3.0".
