FIX: SQL Server Active Directory Registration Always Reports Success (290645)

SYMPTOMS

The SQL Server Enterprise Manager (SEM) reports that adding an instance of SQL Server to Active Directory succeeds, even if the registration is not necessarily successful.

RESOLUTION

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Log on to a computer that is in a Microsoft Windows NT domain, which is not using Active Directory on the domain controller.
  2. Open SEM, right-click the server name, and then click Properties for the local server.
  3. Click the Active Directory tab.
  4. Click Add.
A message displays with the following text:
Active Directory was updated successfully.
