SYMPTOMS
When you execute an update query that joins multiple tables that use star joins, an Access Violation (AV) may occur during the Query Optimization phase.

STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Service Pack 4.MORE INFORMATION
The problem does not occur on Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 Golden or Service Pack 1 (SP1) builds.
The problem does not occur on Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
