Phone Number Is Displayed Twice in a Push Message (290270)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Mobile Information 2001 Server
This article was previously published under Q290270 SYMPTOMS
When you receive messages that are sent by Microsoft Mobile Information Server Enterprise Edition, the sender's phone number may be displayed twice in the push message.
CAUSE
When you use Mobile Information Server with a wireless service provider that is not running Mobile Information Server Carrier Edition, the wireless service provider uses Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to send push messages. The push messages must pass through an SMTP front-end processor at the wireless service provider, and this front-end processor can alter the original message so that two numbers are displayed.
WORKAROUND
To receive push messages in an unaltered format, use a wireless service provider that is running Mobile Information Server Carrier Edition. Mobile Information Server Carrier Edition sends messages from the Mobile Information Server Enterprise Edition computer by using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) to the wireless service provider and directly to the wireless service provider's Short Message Service (SMS) center, which forwards the message to the wireless device. In this scenario, the message does not pass through the front-end processor, and therefore is not altered.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
