This article was previously published under Q290047 SYMPTOMS
When you switch from a Microsoft Exchange Server mailbox folder to an Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) folder or a Hotmail folder, a remote procedure call (RPC) is generated.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
Exchange Server uses RPCs to retrieve and send information to an Exchange Server, but does not use RPCs to communicate with Hotmail or IMAP servers. The generation of an RPC may be unexpected in this scenario; however, Outlook 2002 always generates an RPC when switching from an Exchange Mailbox folder to a PST folder.
When messages are downloaded from Hotmail or IMAP servers, the messages are copied from the respective servers to folders in a local PST folder that is created when the IMAP or Hotmail account is created. Therefore, switching to a Hotmail or IMAP folder is essentially the same as switching to a PST folder on the local computer, and it generates an RPC.
