You must establish a connection to the Exchange Server first to set up offline synchronization with Outlook 2001 for Mac. The following steps assume that you have created a profile and that Outlook 2001 for Mac is connected to your mailbox.

Hot to Set Up Offline Synchronization

Use the following steps to set up offline synchronization after you successfully create a profile and connect to the Exchange Server with Outlook 2001 for Mac:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Services.
  2. Click the Microsoft Exchange Server service, and then click Properties.
  3. On the General tab, click Work Offline in the When Starting section. If you want to receive a prompt to connect to the network or work offline, click Choose the connection type when starting.
  4. Click the Advanced tab, and then click Offline Folder Settings.
  5. In New Offline Folder File, click New.
  6. In Save As, type a descriptive name for the offline folder.
  7. Click Save, and click OK three times in Offline Folder Settings.
NOTE: The following is the default location of the offline folder:

<Hard Drive>:Microsoft Outlook 2001

Although you can save the offline folder (.ost) file to another location, it is recommended that you do not move the file from its original location.

How to Synchronize and Work Offline

Use the following steps to synchronize the offline folder (.ost) file:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Synchronize, and then click All Folders to synchronize the entire mailbox or click This Folder to synchronize a selected folder.
  2. Exit and then restart Outlook 2001 for Mac. You are now in offline mode.
To receive any update items in the Exchange Server mailbox, repeat the synchronization operation that is described in step 1. You will receive a prompt for authentication credentials to connect to the mailbox.
