The Windows 2000 redirector may leak file handles (289509)

When tight loops of CreateFile and CloseHandle calls occur, the Windows 2000 SMB redirector may leak file handles. The CloseHandle calls return successfully, but the redirector does not actually close the handle.
CAUSE
This problem can be caused by a logic error in the scavenging routine in the redirector.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
