PUB2002: Publisher 2000 Stops Responding with a Publisher 2002-Based Calendar (289024)

SYMPTOMS

When you open a Microsoft Publisher 2002 calendar in Publisher 2000, and you then click Page Setup on the File menu to change the paper size of the calendar, Publisher 2000 may stop responding (hang) or quit without warning.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you use a Publisher 2002 Calendar Wizard to create the calendar, and the same wizard does not exist in Publisher 2000.

When you attempt to make any changes to the publication template (for example, change the paper size), Publisher 2000 attempts to make changes to a template that it does not have access to. Therefore, it stops responding.

NOTE: This behavior occurs even when the Publisher 2002 calendar is saved as a Publisher 2000 document.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use a Calendar Wizard template that appears in both Publisher 2002 and Publisher 2000. To successfully open the calendar in Publisher 2000, you must reopen it in Publisher 2002 and apply a different Calendar Wizard template. To do so, follow these steps:

Open your publication in Publisher 2002.
Click Publication Designs in the task pane.
Select a new design that exists in both Publisher 2000 and Publisher 2002, such as Blends.
Save your publication in Publisher 2000, and give the file a new name.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
