SUMMARY

Event ID: 8012
Source: Application Center
Description: Log agent could not write to database
Event Type: Error

The logging agent could not write to the %RecordId% record of the database by using the command %Command%. Status is %Status%: %StatusMessage%.

Meaning: The log agent could not write the data to database.

Effect: The data is lost. This might be an intermittent problem or a consistent behavior. If it is a constant behavior, logging to the Application Center log will not be available on this computer. A subset of events will still be written to the Windows Event Log. This failure does not affect event logging on other cluster members, but the events for this computer will not be available to the cluster controller until this problem is fixed.

Possible Causes and Solutions

Data format is wrong: The data format is incorrect.

Database not running: The Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine might not be running. To check this, click Start, point to Programs, point to MSDE, and then click Service Manager. There might also be an indicator in the taskbar tray.

Database engine settings are missing or wrong: The SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine settings for the log agent are either missing or wrong.

Other Solutions (listed in order of preference):
  1. Restart the computer.
  2. Use the Support Online link in the Events view.
