OL2001: Missing Fonts May Cause Message to Truncate (288510)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2001 for Mac

This article was previously published under Q288510

SYMPTOMS

When you receive messages in Outlook 2001 for Mac, text may be missing.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because of missing or damaged True Type fonts.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, verify that the True Type fonts are present in the Fonts folder on your Apple Macintosh.

MORE INFORMATION

Outlook 2001 for Mac is a Rich Text Format (RTF) messaging client. RTF messages require that True Type fonts be available in order to display the message correctly. The sender of the message determines the fonts that are used in a message. If you remove the True Type font or otherwise de-activate them by using a font managing utility, Outlook 2001 for Mac attempts to find a substitute font to display the message. If an adequate substitute font is not available, your message may appear truncated.

True Type fonts are supplied by recent versions of Microsoft Office for Macintosh, Microsoft Internet Explorer, and the Macintosh Operating System (Mac OS). If Outlook does not detect a version of Microsoft Office or an Office program currently installed, it adds the necessary fonts. If True Type fonts are not installed, Outlook 2001 for Mac adds the following fonts:
  • Arial
  • Comic Sans
  • Georgia
  • Verdana

How to Restore or Reinstall True Type Fonts

If you use font managing software, add the True Type fonts back to the active Fonts folder.

If the True Type fonts have been manually removed, either place them in the Fonts folder or reinstall as appropriate.
