Offline Files Tab Is Missing from the Folder Options Dialog Box in Windows Explorer and My Computer (288135)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to configure your Windows 2000 Server-based computer to use offline files, the Offline Files tab may be missing. To view this tab, click Folder Options on the Tools menu in Windows Explorer or My Computer.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if Windows 2000 Terminal Services is installed and enabled on the computer. You cannot enable the Offline Files feature on a Windows 2000 Server-based computer that is running Terminal Services.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, remove Terminal Services from the computer:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, and then click Add/Remove Windows Components to start the Windows Components Wizard.
  3. In the Components List box, click to clear the Terminal Services check box, and then click Next.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Terminal Services from the computer.
