256986 Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry

After you upgrade from Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) 4.0 to version 4.5, you may find that the client Setup program runs every time a client logs on.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

On the Small Business Server computer, grant the Domain Users group Full Control permissions on the %SystemDrive%\SmallBusiness\Clients\Response folder.

On the client computers and user accounts that are experiencing the problem, perform the following procedure:

  1. In the registry, locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Small Business Server key. Make sure that all of the values in the right pane have a 1 (one) after them.
  2. Remove the Startcli.exe program from the Startup group.
  3. In User Manager for Domains, remove the logon script for the user, and then restart the computer.
  4. Reinstate the logon script for the user account.

If these actions do not resolve the issue, remove the SBS client applications from the client computer and delete the installed file from that user's Response folder. Then run the client Setup program manually from the server share.
