FP2002: Cannot Insert a WordArt Image into a Shared Border (287960)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to insert a WordArt image or other Vector Markup Language (VML) item into a shared border in FrontPage 2002, either the WordArt command is unavailable (appears dimmed), or nothing appears after you insert the image.

CAUSE

Because of the way that VML requires the page to be written and the way that the browser renders shared borders, a WordArt image and a shared border cannot be applied to the same page at the same time.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior and display a WordArt image in a shared border of a page, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, point to Web Settings, and then click the Advanced tab.
  2. Select the Show Hidden files and folders check box, and then click OK.
  3. Click Yes to the prompt to allow FrontPage to refresh the Web.
  4. In the _borders folder, open the page called Top.htm.
  5. On the Insert menu, point to Picture, and then click WordArt.
  6. Select the style that you want, and then type the text that you want to display.
  7. Save Top.htm and then open any page that has the shared border.

    Notice that you cannot see the WordArt image in the shared border.
  8. With the insertion point in the body of the page, point to Picture on the Insert menu, and then click WordArt.
  9. Select any style, and then press SPACEBAR once for the text.
  10. Save the page. On the File menu, click Preview in Browser, and then view the page in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later.
