OL2002: Offline Address Book May Return a Network Problems Error if the Network Connection Is Terminated (287831)

SYMPTOMS

When you compose a new message, you may receive the following error message if you click To to address the message:
Network problems are preventing connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server computer. Contact your system administrator if this condition persists. You can choose File->Work Offline to work locally until the server becomes available.
The error message is incorrect because the Work Offline option is not available on the File menu in Outlook.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the connectivity to the Microsoft Exchange Server has been lost since you opened Outlook.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, quit and then restart Outlook. If you receive the prompt for connection state, click Work Offline.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
