SYMPTOMS

If a resource account has been set up for direct booking, you can schedule a meeeting with the resource beyond the published free/busy time.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the time that is beyond the published free/busy time is not secured against scheduling.

RESOLUTION

How to Set Up a Resource Account for Direct Booking

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Preferences tab, click Calendar Options.
  3. Click Resource Scheduling, and then click to select all three of the available options.
  4. Click OK three times.

How to Set Limits for Publishing Free/Busy Time

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Preferences tab, click Calendar Options.
  3. Click Free/Busy Options, and then enter the number of months in the future for which you want to publish the resource's free/busy time.
  4. Click OK three times.

How to Schedule a Meeting with the Resource

  1. Start Outlook on a second computer.
  2. In the Calendar folder, click Plan a Meeting on the Action menu.
  3. Click Invite Others, click to select the resource account, click Resources, and then click OK.
  4. Select a meeting start date that is beyond the published free/busy time.
The resource account's schedule appears as a series of slashes, indicating that there is not any information available. This does not prevent you from scheduling a meeting during this period.
