OL2002: You Cannot Use the Asterisk Symbol in Mobile Phone Numbers (287809)

SYMPTOMS

When you add a mobile phone number to a contact that contains an "*" (asterisk), the "*" (asterisk) disappears if you click the Pen icon to check the phone number, and then click OK.

NOTE: The "*" (asterisk) is a valid entry for some mobile phone numbers.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to work around this problem:
  1. Don click the Pen icon. -or-

  2. You can re-enter the "*" (asterisk) in the mobile phone number. Do not click the Pen icon again, and then click Save and Close in the contact.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
