XADM: Exchange Cluster Resources Are Not Listed in Resource Types (287630)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to create an Exchange resource on a cluster node, there may be no Exchange resources listed in the Resource Type drop-down list.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if either of the following conditions is true:
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Enterprise Edition is not installed on either of the Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) nodes.

    -or-
  • MSCS is reinstalled after Exchange Server is installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install Exchange Server on both nodes after MSCS is installed to ensure that the cluster-aware version is installed.

NOTE: Any time that MSCS is reinstalled, you need to reinstall Exchange 2000 Server.

MORE INFORMATION

You will probably encounter this issue only when you first create a System Attendant Resource. The System Attendant Resource will, in turn, automatically create all of the other required Exchange Resources and configure their respective dependencies.
